"Cuba is a fascinating country not just because of its music, rum and cigars, or because of its health and educational accomplishments. It’s the tenderness of its people’s hearts that makes Cuba a captivating place you always want to come back to.
The Cuban people have gone through so much during the past half-century. Their struggle is still alive and you can see it when you walk on the streets. In spite of that, you can also feel a sweet and intoxicating sense of resilience and pride all combined.
Whether you are in old Havana or in the middle of the countryside in Viñales, there are lots of colors everywhere you go. Those colors along with the texture of the crumbling walls and facades are extremely luring to the eyes. But despite the beauty of it all and the eccentricity of the old and vibrant American cars, you are strangely and constantly reminded that the embargo is still going on...
Taken a few months before Castro’s death on November 25th 2016, these images represent a vanishing moment in time. They not only provide an opportunity to reflect on Cuba’s past and present socio-political struggle and sacrifices, but also to appreciate and be inspired by the beauty and mystery of this enigmatic island.” Lidia Arriagada-Garcia
